The Panther’s baseball team grabbed a win by taking a 7-2 lead in the sixth inning this past Saturday. They finished the game with an 8-5 win against Southern Virginia University at Panther Field.

At the top of the first inning, Southern Virginia received a run by Mitch Smith. Then, after a groundout by Panther Ozzie Torres, senior,  Russell Golembe, freshman, scored in the second half of the frame, tying the game 1-1 after the first inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Torres doubled down the left field line to move in Golembe. A groundout to second base by Grayson Chitwood, senior, allowed Panther Jaden Johnson, junior, to bring in a point, making the score 7-2.

Shortly thereafter, at the top of the seventh inning, Mason Sheesley scored due to a wild pitch, bringing it to an 8-3. A set of runs in the top of the ninth frame was gained by the Knights, then quickly shut down by Panther’s defense.

Head Coach Ryan Brittle’s team will be swinging the bat again this upcoming today and tomorrow, Feb. 25-26. The Panthers will be playing at home in a pair of doubleheaders against Penn State Harrisburg.
