Guillermo Basurto-Cacho broke and set the Ferrum record in the men’s 6k run at the season opener last Sat., Sept. 6. Women’s and men’s cross country competed at the Converse Kickoff in Spartanburg, S.C.
The men’s team is ranked 12th overall, and the women’s 13th. First-year Basurto-Cacho was the top male finisher for Ferrum, placing 56th in a field of more than 100 runners, and first-year Carly Carwile was the top female scorer, placing 64th.
In addition to Carwile, four other Panther women competed:
First-year Sarah Hudgins was the second finisher on the team taking 72nd, followed by first-years Isabel Weigel in 77th, Mi’Yah Young in 107th, and Chloe Smith in 118th.
Six members of the men’s team followed Basurto Cacho as well:
First-year Damani Veney-Epps claimed 74th, in addition to first-years Carlos Menendez, Seth Truett, and Ethan Fitzgerald taking 85th, 89th, and 91st, respectively.
Returning senior Josh Mills placed 108th for the team, and first-year Josiah Gallegos took 133rd.
Panther’s Cross Country will be back in action on Sept. 20 at the Lancer Pink Invitational.
