A PS5, $100 gift card to the Panther Grounds, and Skullcandy speaker were all on the line at Bingo Night last Thursday.

The event was hosted by the Student Engagement Team and Kappa Alpha Sigma, a local sorority at Ferrum College. Hundreds of students were in attendance.

As the clock neared 9 p.m., Coordinator of Student Engagement Melanie Rooks worked quietly behind the scene to organize the event. Meanwhile, sorority members served popcorn as students arrived.

Junior Naomi Ramos-Mendoza, also known as “Sister Pinky”, handed upcoming attendees popcorn on their way to an open seat in the Blue Ridge Mountain Room.

“So we are Kappa Alpha Sigma, and we are a local sorority,” explained Ramos-Mendoza. “It’s all based locally, and we are all about community service and campus involvement. We try to get out and about in Ferrum, as well as make ourselves present on campus. Tonight, it’s hosting Bingo Night!”

In addition to gift cards and the trending technology, a boo basket, snack basket, lego set, and stuffed rubber duck all sat at the announcement table, waiting to be won.

Chatter echoed across the room as students nervously waited for the next number to be called, hoping to win big. Senior Stone Gibbs had his eyes on the prize–a brand new PS5.

“I see a PS5 on the table, and that is the reason why I am here!” Gibbs said.

Sophomore Madison Cox, however, was there for more than just a prize.

“I love Bingo Night because it is the social event of the season here at Ferrum,” Cox remarked. “Whether it’s the first event of the semester or the very last, everyone comes out. I see all of my friends, eat yummy popcorn, and have a good time while taking a break from the textbook.”

Though anticipating a row of five on his bingo board, Gibbs agreed.

“I am very excited to play bingo on campus,” Gibbs offered. “As a commuter, it’s nice to have events like these where I can enjoy being on campus and interacting with my friends outside of class time.”

The next bingo event will be held in October. With a date still to be set, the Student Life Engagement team encourages all to attend and keep updated on their socials with other campus events throughout the semester.
