Women’s and men’s cross country competed in their last meet before conference championships last Sat. Oct. 10, at the Royals Cross Country Challenge at Queen’s University in Charlotte.
More than 2o teams competed at McAlpine Creek Park. The men’s team placed 15th out of 18 teams, racing to the finish line with 380 points.
First in line was first-year Guillermo Basurto in 74th with a time of 28:16 for the 8000-meter race. First-years Damani Veney-Epps, Carlos Menendez, and Seth Truett were just seconds behind in 85th, 88th, and 97th, respectively, with times of 28:30, 28:34, and 28:52.
Ending the Panther’s race, juniors Josh Mills and Peter Barnett took 100th and 133rd.
The women’s team placed 15th out of 21 teams and was led by first-year Carly Carwile with a time of 20:41 in the 500o-meter-race. She scored 33rd and was the top scorer for the Lady Panthers.
Finishing one minute behind, first-year Sarah Hudgins took 62nd with a time of 21:41.
First-years Isabel Weigel, Mi’Yah Young, and Chloe’ Smith finalized the finish for Ferrum, taking 72nd, 101st, and 116th, respectively in the large field of runners.
The Panthers will take off again on Oct. 25 at the Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships in Greenville, SC.
