On Oct. 9, the wellness center, located under Roberts Hall, hosted its grand opening for students and staff.

Various activities were available during the opening, such as making coasters, enjoying a snack, or relaxing in the massage chairs in the mindfulness suite.

Kamrin Mitchell, student wellness and title IX coordinator, coordinated this event for students and staff to enjoy a time to relax and get to know the wellness center. This is Mitchell’s first year on campus.

“I have been with the college for three weeks now, so previously I’ve been with Franklin County Public Schools, so I’ve been a Pre-k teacher for the past four years,” said Mitchell. “I’ve done intensive home and brief strategic family therapy over the summer, and now I’m here.”

The wellness center also offers various resources.

“We have Teladoc, which is the virtual counseling service that Ferrum is partnered with. We also offer creativity services, as well as our mindfulness suite, so you can calm your body and mind.” said Mitchel. “I am going to be leading meditation sessions and yoga sessions, and I hope to offer other various sessions.”

Grad student Hannah Huffman said she goes to the suite to get away from it all.

“It’s away from other academic buildings so I think it’s just a good place for students to relax,” she said.

For first- year Gavin Adkins, the wellness center is a place for him to be creative

“I like the art room, I like the ability to express my creativity,” said Adkins.

The wellness suite is open from 8a.m.-5 p.m. on the weekdays and open to everyone.

“I want people to know that this is a place for them and there are resources available for them, I hope they come and visit,” shared Mitchell.
