Dixon Named ODAC Wrestler of the Week

Rayshawn Dixon has been named ODAC wrestler of the week.

Rayshawn Dixon, junior, has been named Heavyweight Wrestler of the Week by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).

Dixon went 2-0 last week with a pair of pins. He opened the week with a 2:54 pin over Roanoke College’s Brady Elswick Feb 2 at home, then posted a fall over Southern Virginia University’s Igor Lakicevic in a time of 4:23, Feb 4 at home.

Dixon’s matches last week run his season record to 26-1. Of his 26 wins this year, nine have been by fall. Dixon is currently ranked #3 in the nation by d3wrestle.com and #5 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

This is the fourth honor this season for Dixon, who competes in the 285-pound weight class. Dixon also earned ODAC Heavyweight Wrestler of the Week honors on Nov 7, Nov 15, and Jan 2.

Dixon has four tournament titles to his credit this year. He opened the season by winning the Mount Union Invitational Nov. 5 in Alliance, OH, then won the Cougar Open on Nov. 12 in Danville, VA. Dixon earned his third title in as many tournaments at the Citrus Invitational Dec. 30 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, then won the rugged Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational Jan 28 in Wheaton, IL.

Coach Logan Meister’s team is set to compete next  tomorrow, Feb 11, at the 2023 ODAC Wrestling Championships. Shenandoah University will host the tournament in Winchester, VA.
