The Panthers earned an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) wrestling win Feb. 2, on the road over Southern Virginia University, winning 42-9 at SVU’s Knight Arena.
Qwantez Watkins, freshman, started things off for the Panthers with an 18-3 tech fall over Quinn Richards at 125 pounds. Walker Bell, freshman, managed the same thing with a 23-6 tech fall over John Carlson at 133 pounds.
Jon Ward kept it going at 141 pounds with a 12-9 decision over Weston Hirschi. Southern Virginia’s Elijah Blackwell got the Knights on the scoreboard with a pin over the Panther’s Joseph Olalde, sophomore, at 149 pounds. Tyler Ramirez, senior, answered right back, pinning Porter Kinne at 157 pounds to make it a 19-6 Panther lead.
Mateo Villalobos, sophomore, kept it rolling with a pin over Calvin Fillmore at 165 pounds to increase the Panther lead to 25-6. Tyson Hoopes picked up a 6-3 decision over Panther Franklin Melton, freshman, at 174 pounds to trim the lead to 25-9 before the Ferrum swept the final three matches of the night.
Joseph Toner, freshman, picked up a 23-5 tech fall over Lincoln Trapp at 184 pounds; Ethan Fragoso, senior, pinned Weston Memmott at 197 pounds; and #7 Rayshawn Dixon, senior, improved to 25-0 this season with a pin over Mellpone Aisea at 285 pounds.
