Twelve players, fifty-seven questions, and only one grand prize.

Trivia night began once again, boasting a Black Excellence theme this time around.

The Black Students Union hosted a Black Excellence Trivia Night on Feb., 19 at 8 p.m. in the Panther’s Den with trivia goers battling it out to the sounds of different Black artists playing in the background and all types of Black celebrities being featured for the questions.

Airiana Beverly, junior, took home the First Place prize for this quizzical challenge and said she had fun while also dominating the competition.

“I enjoyed the trivia because it highlighted Black excellence facts, and I knew them,” she stated.

All of the questions for the night’s game were put together by students and were designed as a way to highlight the idea of Black excellence and show what it meant to them.

“What we wanted to focus on for this trivia, we try to incorporate questions about things that are relevant to the students currently and some of the things in the past that influenced where things are today. I encourage my student workers to pick questions about topics that were important to them and that they thought their peers could learn from,” relayed Melanie Rooks, head of Student Engagement Team.

The trivia proved itself as an opportunity to learn about Black excellence for those who simply decided to be onlookers, gleaning some new information from the game.

“It was an interesting experience, and I feel like I learned something from the questions,” stated Anna Newman, freshman.
