Baseball went 1-2 the week of Feb. 11, beating Alfred State 20-11 on Feb. 18 and dropping a double header to the same team a day prior, 9-8, and 18-7.
In the first game of the week, Clayton Michael, senior, was 3 for 4 with a double and 3 stolen bases in the first game.
Noah Bashamn, graduate student from Roanoke College, went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs in the second game.
“Well we didn’t play very well, but we gave ourselves a chance to win the series. As we get our pitching lengthened out, we should be able to hold the opponent’s offense in check and give our offense a chance to pull away,” said Head Coach Ryan Brittle.
Even though the double header was a battle to the finish, the Panthers always keep fighting towards the end offensively and worked good together as a team.
“This is a good group of young men, and they have done a great job of bonding themselves together. I look forward to seeing this group build confidence throughout the year,” Brittle said.
In the Feb. 18, game, Kyle Markowitz, junior, lead the team, going 4-5 with 4 RBIs, a double, and a triple.
In the eighth inning, the Panthers overtook Alfred State with five runs, including two off Markowitz’s tripe to right field and Russel Golembe’s, sophomore, single to second base.
The Pioneers concluding the game with two runs at the top of the ninth inning for the final result of 20-11.
“The biggest thing that stuck out to me was the fact that we were down in the first and third games, and both games we battled back and had a chance to win the first game and did win the last game. So these guys kept battling and never gave up,” Brittle said.
