The Panthers continue forward as the spring tennis season continues for a second week.

Men’s Tennis played against Randolph last Wed., Feb. 21, and Guilford Sun., Feb. 25.

Women’s Tennis competed against Sweet Briar last Sun., Feb. 18, Salem on Tues., Feb. 20, Randolph Wed., Feb.21, and Guilford Sun. Feb. 26.

While there has been a consistent team loss streak across both the men’s and women’s teams with simultaneous scores of 0-9, Rod Baker, coach, is not giving up hope, explaining that overall, the matches have been going well.

“We haven’t found that illusive W yet,” Baker said, “but both teams are performing well and in an upward trajectory!”

However, an uphill climb it may be, as Baker reflects the season to is already marked with a high rate of injury.

“Matches have gone well,” expressed Baker, “but it’s been an injury-heavy season already.”

Last Wednesday, Tripoom “TJ” Jala, top seed, stood his ground against his opponent at Randolph, losing 6/4-6/4 in the singles match. Similarly, Mary Mason, senior, and Morgan Hundley, senior, tied in their doubles match facing Salem that Tuesday. Baker expressed only satisfaction for the outcomes.

“They all played so well,” Baker said.

The season will continue with the upcoming match opposing Mary Baldwin on campus Fri., March 1, for both men’s and women’s tennis.

Baker asserts that his players have only the best potential to come.

Hannah Huffman, (sophomore), and Morgan Hundley are the players to watch,” he said, “and of course, Gabriel Alavarez, (sophomore), and TJ, too.”
