Friends of Ferrum Park’s plan to bring a community park to the Village since March of 2023 was denied by the Development Department but then tabled by the Board of Supervisors at its meeting March 19.
FOFP Chair Rebecca Saunders said massive turnout at the BOS meeting helped sway the Supervisors to not kill the proposal.
“Because there has been such a community push–they see the real value in what we are trying to do,” she said.
The FOFP proposal was in competition with another. Both had been denied by the Development Department, and the BOS did not say whether the other plan was still in consideration.
“When the Development Department denied it, it was because there was not enough housing included,” Sauders said.
Mention was also made of possibly having FOFP pay an additional $50,000.
“It was originally offered to developers for free. Now essentially, they may want us to pay more,” she said.
FOFP has $200,000 approved for a loan.
“If we need more, we will find the money,” Saunders said.
The Board has set aside March 25 at 5 p.m. to address the proposal and vote. The meeting will be public, and Saunders is encouraging any and all to attend.
