Pancakes.

Running for mayor.

Scaring your neighbor.

All in the name of good fun and a greater cause for the Village.

As Friends of Ferrum Park continues to finalize its park plans, it’s fundraisers galore! Ferrum Forward is now seeking engagement from not only the community, but the college as well to facilitate future fundraisers for the upcoming recreational addition to the recently approved park.

Inspired and carried out by the various members of Ferrum Forward, the events to fund the park are numerous and intended to be fun, according to FOFP Chair and FF Member Rebecca Saunders

“There is no highlight event,” she says, “they are all highlight events.”

The election for honorary mayor is already in progress, as well as collections for the ongoing shoe drive.

A flat-foot dance and competition is set for Sept. 7, alongside a performance from Larry Sigmon and the Virginia Girls from 6-9 p. m.

Ferrum Forward and Friends of Ferrum Parks will also appear at the Rocky Mount Festival on Sept. 21 and will be hosting a pancake breakfast at the Ferrum Fire Station.

Oct. 5 marks the flea market, and Nov. 16 will entail a Holiday Craft Bazar and community celebration.

The Haunted Trail on Oct. 18 and 19, returning for its second year, has become quite the popular attraction, too, according to Saunders.

“The haunted trail is one of our most well-known events, and we plan for it to be even better this year,” Saunders reports. “The elementary school is joining us with their trunk-or-treat, and interest has only increased.”

FF member Kitty Martin agrees.

“A lot of children enjoyed it last year, and there was a lot of participation. Now they’re joining us this year, too, and combining their Trunk or Treat,” she offers, “We had so much fun.”

However, this fun does not occur on its own, and in the past, volunteer support has been less than ample.

“The most volunteers we had last year was 14,” Saunders explains, “and that was for the Haunted Trail. This year, we hope to double–double the volunteers, the trail length, the scares, and the fun.”

The progress fills FF member Susan Selvage with joy.

“I love what we’re doing here,” Selvage says with a smile.

Saunders wishes to share that smile to the whole community.

“Even if they don’t want to volunteer, they should attend,” she exclaims.
