The sound of loud music and the sight of attention grabbing booths had students packed into The Panthers Den Thursday night to gather information on clubs offered on campus.

Darion Moore, senior, and DeShawn Hairston, senior, were in charge of setting up the event.

“This year was my first time being a part of the Club Fair, and I was impressed with the turn out,” Moore said. “From my view, it seemed to be a lot more students interested in joining a club this year.”

Moore and Hairston are involved with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

“We represent manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift,” Moore said. “We teach our members how to be upstanding men in their communities.”

Omega Psi Phi is a historically black fraternity founded at Howard University.

“What excites me the most is seeing the interest students have in my fraternity and other people’s stations,” Moore said about the engagement of students at the Club Fair. “The curiosity is exciting. They seem genuinely willing to hear what we have to say, and what we’re doing to be involved in the school. It was even nice to see the excitement they had for our second-year fraternity on campus.”

But this fair wasn’t centered around the Greek Life.

There were clubs at the fair such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Gamers Guild, N, and others.

“I think it’s important for new students and current students to be involved in club activities because it helps you broaden your horizons and help build connections that can open doors for your future,” Moore said.

One new student, freshman Jamal Neal, checked out the FCA booth.

“I’ve seen it back in my hometown and was interested in what FCA had to offer,” Neal said.

Hairston–who has been in National Honor Society of Learning and BSU–also believes it’s important students get active on campus.

“I think it’s important for students on campus to get involved in clubs because it allows for them to express their feelings in the things they enjoy to do,” Hairston said. “Being around people who are like-minded individuals can often boost your mindset and the way you approach obstacles that may arise in your life.”

Any students who missed the Club Fair can find information about clubs offered on campus at the club’s Instagram page, or on the college’s website under the clubs and activities tab.
