The Undead Poets are organizing a Halloween-themed Night of Terrors contest on campus, fitting the name of their club into the season of spooky.
The event consists of two parts–a few less than Frankenstein’s monster–the Night of Terrors competition and a coffeehouse/open mic event.
The contest is accepting submissions throughout the month until Oct. 27, and submissions may include works of film, poetry, and short story.
English Professor Dan Murphy encourages all to submit and ensures that there will be prizes.
“Winners in the following categories will earn an Amazon gift card: trailer or short film, poetry, short story,” Murphy explains.
The submission link can be found using the QR-code on the flier or via the link here.
The second part is the coffeehouse on Oct. 31, starting at 6:30 p.m.
A common event on campus, coffeehouses serve as an open-mic setting for students twice a semester. However, in keeping with the essence of Halloween, a haunting spin is welcomed on any literary works.
“Entries to the contest should be Halloween-themed,” says Murphy, “but general participants in the open mic night can do whatever they like!”
The winners from the Night of Terrors competition will also be announced at the start of the coffeehouse. Murphy hopes that all participants will attend to show support and share their work.
“We are hoping that authors might be in attendance to present their work,” Murphy offers.
