Ferrum Forward and Friends of Ferrum Park will be hosting their second annual Trick-or-Treat Trail at Ferrum Park tomorrow from 3-5 p.m at 10884 Franklin St.

This event isn’t any ordinary trick-or-treating.

Local community members will be set up along the road section (end of W. Franklin Drive) in a trunk-or-treat style with their cars decorated.

“The individuals set up along the trail at candy stations that the kids will walk along and collect candy as they go,” Director of FOFP Rebecca Saunders said.

Kids will be able to take place in games for prizes as well.

“The games and prizes section will be at the turn around at the end of the road, and we’ll have little carnival games set up where the kids can win prizes,” Saunders said. “There’s no cost to anyone. It’s just a way for us to have fun together as a community.”

Ferrum Forward and FOFP is partnering with both the Callaway and Ferrum Elementary PTOs and the Phoebe Needles Center.

“We have collected candy donations from local businesses and individuals to help offset the cost and remove the burden from the PTOs,” Saunders said. “It means a lot to us that we are able to do that.”

After the feedback from last year’s Trick-or-Treat Trail, this event has been circled on the calendars of FF and FOFP.

Saunders calls it a multi-generational event.

“Everyone who came last year seemed to love it. Even though it was bare bones, the kids seemed to really enjoy the experience. One of the best parts were some of the grandparents who came and were so tickled by it,” Saunders said. “One woman said, ‘I’ve been trick-or-treating for 60 some years and never have I trick or treated through the woods.’ Everyone seems to enjoy it, no matter their age, which makes it extra special.”

FF and FOFP are still interested in volunteers who want to participate.

They would like volunteers to arrive by 2:30 p.m. so they can set up before the children come.

Saunders said her favorite part of this event is the contagious excitement everyone has.

“Everyone’s in a good mood and happy to be there. It feels like it’s strengthening our bond as a community every time we come together to celebrate like this,” she said.
