Football traveled to Guilford over the weekend where they secured a 20-7 victory against Guilford College.
The first points on the board were from Panther kicker Seth Deaton, senior, who placed a field goal in between the uprights from 48 yards away to give Ferrum a 3-0 lead. At the 12:45 mark in the first quarter.
The momentum didn’t stop there, with Jahylen Lee, sophomore, securing a touchdown for the Panthers less than 10 minutes later to make the score 10-0 with four minutes left in the quarter.
The Panthers went into halftime holding a 10-7 lead after Guilford maneuvered a touchdown during the second quarter with 6:28 left in the half.
Deaton once again put three points on the board during the third quarter with a field goal finding its spot from 36 yards away to make the score 13-7 as the third quarter came to an end.
Aiden Vaught, freshman, solidified the Panthers’ lead when he brought the ball into the end zone for one final touchdown bringing the Panthers to 20-7 at the 8:07 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Panthers claimed 251 rushing yards during this game, with Lee being responsible for 211 of those yards. Along with that, Deaton’s first field goal set a new Ferrum College record of 48 yards, beating the previous record of 47 that was set in 2007 by Clint Slappey.
Defense also claimed a fumble recovery and an interception during this game, with Fuller Howard, junior, and Marquan Martin, freshman, both adding nine tackles to their names.
This game brought Ferrum to a 4-4 overall record and 2-3 record within the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
The team’s next game will be away against Randolph-Macon College on Nov. 9.
