Panthers Fall to Washington & Lee but Bounce Back at the Builder Invitational

The Panthers fell to Washington and Lee 25-15 on the road at Doremus Gym on Jan. 16, and then performed at the Builder Invitational where several wrestlers placed on Jan. 18.

Against Washington and Lee, senior Zach Beckner (125 lbs) opened with a tech fall, which was his 7th of the season, defeating Tony Urso 18-1. 

Senior Trent Proctor (133 lbs) followed with a 7-4 overtime win, giving Ferrum an early 8-0 lead. However, Washington and Lee came back with four consecutive major decisions from 141 lbs to 165 lbs, taking a 21-8 advantage.

Despite the deficit, sophomore Joseph Toner (184 lbs) earned a 3-0 decision to trim the margin to 21-11.

Washington and Lee sealed the victory with a major decision at 197 lbs, but senior Rayshawn Dixon closed out the night for the Panthers, securing a 12-4 major decision.

At the Builder Invitational, the Panthers had several winning performances. 

Junior Joseph Olalde (157 lbs) led the team, finishing in 3rd place with a 3-1 record. Olalde pinned Valentino Antoine from Marymount in just 1:11 during the 3rd-place match.

Senior Trent Ray (285 lbs) secured 5th place, earning a 7-2 decision over Edgar Lagos from Marymount after a 3-1 record for the day.

First Year Robert Owens Jr. (157 lbs) delivered a 3-2 record with 2 pins and a tech fall. 

First Year Jackson Lambert (149 lbs) and Genowa Lane (184 lbs) also picked up key wins, with Lane earning a tech fall in one of his two wins.
