On Feb. 5, the Theatre Department hosted auditions for its highly anticipated spring production of Mary Poppins. With classic songs such as “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and “A Spoonful of Sugar”, this production will be a challenge to the vocal and physical abilities of the cast.
During auditions, the Rex Theatre buzzed with anxious energy as the room filled with students and community members. Directors Emily Blankenship-Tucker, Rachel Blankenship-Tucker, and Rebecca Crocker welcomed everyone and gave some warm encouragement before calling back one by one.
“I was nervous to sing and dance in front of everybody but felt much more comfortable by the end,” exclaimed Levi Handy, 9 years old, first-time member of the children’s ensemble.
This show will have roles for folks of all ages and levels of theatre experience, highlighting the department’s commitment to fostering a diverse and unique cast list and involve the community.
“I felt that the auditions went well and that there were lots of talented people in the room. I trust that our directors will put people in the roles they fit best and look forward to working with everyone,” said Keyshawn Muse, first-year student.
Some folks have even started to rearrange their schedules looking forward to the spring shows.
“I did not want to miss all of you doing Mary Poppins in Ferrum,” said English Professor Tina Hanlon.
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin immediately, and performances are currently scheduled for March 27-30.
