Records were broken and qualifying time cuts were made with the women’s and men’s indoor track and field team on Feb. 21 at the Rockingham Collegiate Open at Bridgewater College.

Junior Kayden Ryder broke the school record for the 800m, placing fifth in the event. Junior Deonte Lawson took third in the triple jump and sophomore Joseph Terry placed ninth in the long jump. The three all scored a place in the ODAC championships.

The women’s 4×400 relay also secured their spot at the upcoming championship meet, taking second in the event, with the team comprised of seniors Ariana Beverley and Jordan Booker, sophomore Emma Kelly, and freshman Lily Bigger. Booker also placed ninth in the 400m, taking her times to the next level as well.

There were also many non-qualifying, yet notable finishes for the team as it finished out the indoor track season:

  • Sophomore Elijiah Joyner set a new personal record for the shot put and took 11th place, missing the ODAC championships by one spot.
  • Beverley placed 13th in the 60-meter dash, and 14th in the long jump.
  • Kelley took 13th in the 400-meter final.
  • Bigger took 14th in the shot put.
  • Senior DaMauri McPherson placed 11th in the 60-meter dash and 24th in the 200m.
  • Junior Josh Mills took 14th in the 800-meter.
  • Terry also took 31st in the 200-meter final.
  • Sophomore Jaylon Hillman placed 29th in the shot put.

The ODAC championships are up next for indoor track and field on March 1 and 2 at Roanoke College.
