The women’s tennis team kicked their 2025 season off on with a non-conference match on the Burrows-Skeens Tennis Courts, suffering a 5-0 loss against Columbia College. This match also marked the coaching debut of new head coach, Noah Hughes.

The Koalas (4-1) won the first two doubles matches by matching 6-2, 6-2 scores. In singles play, Madison Cox, first-year, lost to Natalie Diaz 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot. Hannah Huffman, sophomore, then suffered a 6-3, 6-0 defeat to Aniya Sims while Skylar Honeycutt, sophomore, fell 6-2, 6-0 to Rachel Thompson. Gabby Mendoza, junior, finished with the final score of 6-0 against Camryn McCutchen.

Despite the outcome of their first game, the team members remained optimistic about its upcoming matches.

“Even though our first match didn’t go in our favor, I have still seen growth within the tennis program in more ways than one. Not only have our skills improved but so has our cohesiveness and support between both the men’s and women’s team,” explained Mendoza.
