The Theatre Department is gearing up for a magical journey as they prepare to bring Mary Poppins to the Sale Theatre stage. With rehearsals well underway, the cast and crew have been hard at work creating an enchanting performance of this well-beloved classic tale about a very peculiar nanny.
“I am so honored and excited to be working with this cast of amazingly talented folks,” said Robyn Abshire Sims, a key character and aid to the production.
The enthusiasm and dedication of the team are evident as they prepare for opening night. The cast and crew have been creating set pieces and props that bring the mesmerizing story to life. Set pieces include magical bookcases, enchanting chimneys, and rugged rooftops.
“It’s a fun show to set and play,” said Troy Smith, senior.
Smith’s positive attitude reflects the energy and camaraderie that the cast and crew share as they come together to make this performance special.
“This has been one of the best groups of kids we have ever worked with. They will be role models for the next group of kids to join us on stage,” exclaimed Co-director Rachel Blankenship-Tucker.
One aspect of this production is the diverse cast, which includes students, children, and community members of all ages.
“I love the show, it’s magical, and the set pieces are really cool,” explained Delaney Creech, age 11.
As opening night approaches, anticipation is building for what players hope will to be unforgettable performances.
An optional dinner or lunch is served before the show (on Saturday and Sunday only) in Franklin Hall and is served by the actors in the tradition of The Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre.
Mary Poppins is set to open on Thurs., March 27 and runs through March 30. Show and dinner tickets are available at https://www.ferrum.edu/events/category/theatre-arts/.
