Women’s and men’s track and field started the outdoor season with personal records at the Pheonix Invitational in Elon, NC.
First-year Jamal Jones dominated in the 100-meter with a finish of 10.94 seconds, with junior Deonte Lawson, senior Damauri McPherson, and first-year Joseph Terry all less than a second behind.
Senior Ariana Beverley ran the 100-meter in 13.84 seconds and was followed in time by sophomores Emma Kelley and Zoie Wagner.
Jones also PR-ed in the 200-meter with first-year Jordan Smith, and Terry. McPherson and Lawson competed in the event with notable times as well.
Beverley and Kelley ran the 200-meter, too, with Wagner who PR-ed with a time of 34.62 seconds.
Junior Kayden Ryder finished the 800-meter in less than two minutes, junior Josh Mills competed in the 1500-meter and PR-ed with senior Greyson Crouch.
Sophomores Kyle Holcomb and Elijah Joyner made their marks in the discus throw and shot put, McPherson in the javelin throw, and senior Na-Shawn Greene and Lawson in the men’s long jump.
The men’s A team relay finished off the day. In heat one, Greene, Smith, McPherson, and Jones, led the way.
The team’s next meet will be on Fri., March 21 at Appalachian State.
