Adam’s Lake was restocked with 250 rainbow trout last week, and students wasted almost no time bringing their reels out.
This was all made possible thanks to Bracken’s Trout Hatchery, coupled with a grant supplied by the Virginia Division of Wildlife Resources in which Ferrum College will receive the funding to stock the trout twice a year.
“It’s a big opportunity for the students,” Aaron Conover, Instructor of Ecotourism and Recreation Leadership encouraged. “April first, we will begin allowing students to keep four fish per-day.”
Fishing at Adams Pond has been restricted to Ferrum College students and faculty, and no live bait or power bait is permitted through April 1. Due to the surge in popularity at the lake, Ferrum College is on a strict catch-and-release policy through the rest of March.
“I like fishing because it’s relaxing,” explained first-year Chloe Pfuntner. “It’s kind of refreshing. I never fished before they restocked.”
On Apr. 6, the Enviroclub is holding a community Trout Fishing Tournament, with a $5 entry fee.
“It’ll be a first for Ferrum as far as I know,” Enviroclub President Trent Ray, senior, added. “It’ll be from 2-5 p.m.”
