Panthers Compete at Mountaineer March Madness

The women’s and men’s track and field teams competed at the Mountaineer First Chance meet at Appalachian State University on March 22, 2025.

First-years Jamal Jones and Jordan Smith led the Panthers at the event, with Jones taking 2nd place in the 100m and Smith placing 1st in the 400m.

In the men’s high jump, first-year Max Madsen and sophomore Jaiden Childress tied for 6th, and senior DaMauri McPherson placed 9th in the javelin throw.

In the men’s high jump, Madsen placed 4th, and senior Na-Shawn Greene took sixth. Madsen also placed 15th in the 100m.

For the women’s high jump, senior Ariana Beverley placed 9th. She also scored 24th in the 100m, 32nd in the 20om, and 19th in the long jump.

Sophomore Emma Kelley placed 20th in the women’s long jump, and first-year Lillian Bigger competed in the women’s javelin throw and shot put. Sophomore Sara Rah took 17th in the shot put.

Sophomore Kyle Holcomb placed 18th in the men’s hammer throw, 22nd in the discus throw, and 24th in the shot put, just ahead of sophomore Elijah Joyner taking 30th and junior Jaylon Hillman taking 33rd.

Greene, Lawson, Smith, and Jones took first place in the 4x100m relay, while junior Kayden Ryder finished 28th in the 1500m and 17th in the 800m.

Ending the day, junior Logan McClung placed 8th in the men’s 400m hurdles, and Jones scored 3rd in the 200m.

The team will be back in action on March 28 in Lynchburg, VA.
