Women’s tennis fell to Randolph College with a final score of 5-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match on March 19 at Burrows-Skeens Tennis Courts. This win progressed Randolph College to a 4-3 record overall and a 2-0 score in the ODAC, while Ferrum has now dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 within the conference.
In doubles play, Randolph won spots one and two and received a forfeit at spot three. In the first doubles position, Lena Kersten and Lize van Veen of Randolph defeated Skylar Honeycutt, sophomore, and Hannah Huffman, senior, of Ferrum, 6-0. Randolph’s Gianna Cabrera and Sabrina Dickerson won 6-1 at #2 doubles against Ferrum’s Gabby Mendoza, senior, and Madison Cox, first-year. In the #3 doubles spot, Maddie Mills and Fleur Gaalman from Randolph then went on to claim the win by forfeit.
In the singles matches, Kersten continued Randolph’s lead by defeating Madison Cox 6-0, 6-0 in spot one, and van Veen winning 6-0, 6-1 over Huffman at two. Randolph also received forfeits in the fifth and sixth singles matches, where Gianna Cabrera and Noura Elkhansa won by default.
