Earth week approaches, and the students of Environmental Science Class 115 have planned out a week of activities the entire campus is invited to join.
The week kicks off on Mon., April 21, with the Earth Day Jam, ice cream social, line dancing, and a nature walk–all of which will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Institute.
“Our Earth Week events are designed to help our community build a connection to nature. We want people outside, having fun and enjoying the community connection and our beautiful campus,” said Chekka, biology professor.
Tuesday starts off with a litter pickup at 11:15 a.m. at the Garber Greenhouse. Then that night from 5-7 p.m. is the day on the pond at Adams Lake.
Wednesday is a social media campaign for Legos and Pinecone Feeders during community hour in Garber classroom 215.
Thursday is a hike that starts from campus and goes to the Ferrum Farmers Market from 4-5 that afternoon.
Fri., April 25, closes out the week with a chance for students to come and plant flowers at the arboretum at 11:15 that morning.
All the events for the week are open to all students so that they may join in on supporting both the students who planned them and the planet.
“The events that are planned reflect the passion and dedication of our environmental science students in ESC 115 Green Team,” continued Lash. “They have taken the initiative to plan and organize this entire week, demonstrating their commitment to environmental advocacy and their desire to share their knowledge with the wider community. By attending, the community will not only be supporting vital environmental awareness but also recognizing the hard work and leadership of our students.”
