The Class of 2029 marks the largest incoming class at Ferrum College since 2018 upon their arrival on campus for the fall semester.
According to President Mirta Martin, the increasing roster is something to commemorate.
“This is a historic milestone to celebrate,” exclaims Martin. “It reflects the exceptional work of our admissions and financial aid teams, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the support of our alumni and the community. Together, we create a vibrant, welcoming, and supportive community that students are eager to join.”
Martin affirms that the 2025-26 academic school year is a significant moment in Ferrum history.
“This year signals a defining moment in Ferrum Rising–a renewed era of academic, athletic, and community excellence,” Martin says. “Our academic and athletic programs, mission, and importance of community resonate deeply, and this growth positions us to continue making a transformative impact on students’ lives. As I said at several events thus far this year, ‘This is our time. Our college is alive with opportunity, momentum, and promise.'”
However, Ferrum Rising has not been a solo movement. Martin attributes the college’s direction forward to the efforts of all across campus.
“So many individuals and events contribute to this success,” Martin explains. “Our admissions and financial aid teams, coaches, student ambassadors, alumni, faculty, and staff who support student life–all play vital roles. Every recruitment event, campus visit, and personal interaction helps students, and their families feel at home sometimes, even before they arrive. This collective effort truly reflects the spirit and heart of Ferrum College.”
Sophomore Madison Cox is a returning student who is also feeling the effect of an increased sense of the Panther spirit with more students on campus.
“At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect, knowing that there would be a lot more freshman coming in this year,” Cox explains. “But so far it’s been great! I love the hustle and bustle and new energy I run into on campus every day, and it’s really cool to see campus events get more and more crowded with new faces.”
First-year Ricky Sutton is more than proud to be a part of the new crowd on campus.
“It’s great to be at Ferrum,” Sutton says. “I love it. I love to be a part of a group that’s making history.”
