The Ferrum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its first meeting of the year last Thursday.
Representatives from each sports team congregated to discuss the best courses of action going forward within the given organizations. President Mirta Martin was also in attendance, serving as guidance for the committee.
“(SAAC) is critical; they are the voice of the student athlete,” Martin explained. “They represent everything that is great and good about excellence on the field and in the classroom.”
The committee aims to ensure proper communication between the Athletics Department and the student athletes.
“(Student athletes) are going to be the ones taking these institutions forward. They’re going to be the ones executing and changing the world,” Martin proclaimed.
Among the members present was Jake Knight, senior, representing the wrestling team. Knight spoke on the community service options present within the organization.
“I’m looking forward to helping the sports expand both competitively and within the community,” Knight stated. “I’m excited to start working on our plans to give back.”
The current president is senior Jadyn Patton, accompanied by her vice president Emily Hopper, senior.
