The Panther Volleyball team overcame recent adversity to pick up their third win of the season at home last Saturday against Chowan University.
The Panthers entered the match on a 12-game losing skid but would prove not to let the statistics decide the outcome. Though the Hawks worked for an early lead, it would quickly be retaken by the Panthers off 3 straight errors from Chowan.
Afterward, the Hawks would never regain another lead, and the Panthers pulled away with the set. At a final score of 25-16, notable performances on the set included junior Catherine Bennett picking up her first 2 kills of her eventual 10 on the game, as well as sophomore Harleigh Propst, who also added 2 kills and an assist to her count.
The second set featured more of the same, with Ferrum gaining the lead at a score of 3-2, thanks to a kill from first-year Emma Powell. The Panthers would continue to score in a sleuth of different kills, stemming from Bennett, sophomore Renee Dove, and junior Danielle Worthy.
The ladies continue to keep the ball rolling, and though they faced a 4-point deficit early in the third set, they would go on to outscore the Hawks 7-1 through the next 8 points. This was brought about in part by kills from Bennett and Powell, mounting them an 8-6 lead.
Thanks to kills from sophomore Sarabeth Johnson, Propst, Bennett, and a service ace from first-year Angela Castillo, the Panthers cruised to a clean sweep against the Hawks.
Next on the schedule was Carolina University, which the Panthers dropped 3-0. Notable performances from this game include another 10-assist game from Propst.
The Panthers will be back in action at home tomorrow against Southern Wesleyan University at 6:30 p.m.
