On Oct. 21, the Student Wellness & Title IX hosted a breast cancer awareness event.
The event welcomed students and staff to stop by the Atrium in Franklin Hall to honor and support those affected by breast cancer.
Pink ribbons were given for students and staff to sign in remembrance, celebration, or support of loved ones. Along with the ribbons, helpful information and resources to raise awareness and encourage early detection was shared for students and staff.
Student Wellness & Title IX coordinator, Kamrin Mitchell, coordinated the event for students and staff to come out and raise awareness for breast cancer.
“Ferrum College wants to embrace any challenges and difficulties and growth, so we definitely want to spread awareness for breast cancer” shared Mitchell. “I hope people feel open to coming to the wellness office and become interested in collaborating in spreading awareness for other things.”
For junior Skylar Honeycutt, breast cancer awareness isn’t just about the month, it’s the purpose behind it.
“It’s not just entirely about the month; it’s about the lifestyle,” said Honeycutt. “Personally, my grandmother was affected by breast cancer, so that’s very hard for someone ,especially me and my dad. My dad struggles with it every day.”
First-year Brandon Curly shared what breast cancer awareness means to him.
“Bringing awareness to a lot more people through breast cancer awareness month really helps people understand breast cancer as a disease and how it affects others as well”, Curly stated.
