Lee-Ann O’Dell, Coordinator of Outreach and Programing at Ferrum College, recently led the Panther’s baseball team in a guided meditation.
“Meditation can help clear your mind and find peace within yourself,” O’Dell told the team.
O’Dell touched on how meditation can be used as a means of settling the mind before a baseball game. She also mentioned several Major Leaguers who have utilized meditation in their careers like Shawn Green, former Toronto Blue Jay, and Dylan Cease, pitcher for the Chicago White Sox.
The team was taken through a 15-minute, guided meditation session led by O’Dell. The session took place in the Fitness Center’s gym.
“The experience was very pleasant,” said sophomore Raleigh Walker. “I came out feeling relaxed and clear headed.”
During the session, the lights of the gym were turned pitch black, and audio of crashing waves was played while O’Dell gave the team breathing instructions.
“I really enjoy meditation and internal breathing,” said sophomore Steven Ritchie. “It gives me time to connect with myself physically and mentally, and it’s helped me with level headedness and internal confidence.”
Ritchie said he meditates and does breathing exercises daily, and it has improved his wellness.
Restorative yoga takes place every week on campus, typically in Swartz Gym.
Anyone interested in going to these sessions can download the Panther Connect app to keep track of when and where they are as well as other school events.
