Kick.
Save.
SCORE!
The crowd goes wild.
The Panthers triumphed over the Bridgewater Eagles in men’s soccer with a 2-0 score last Saturday.
“It turned out to be quite the game,” Faith Weaver, spectator, said, “especially when the intense play and lots of saves turned into scoring in the second half.”
Sophomore Franklin Melton agreed.
“It was almost boring,” Melton said, “until it wasn’t.”
Junior forward Payton Rausch sliced through a scoreless first half of the game with the first score of the evening at the 62 minute mark, assisted by freshman midfielder/defender Adrien Danley.
Sophomore forward Anthony Ceballos-Medina followed in Rasuch’s cleat-steps just two minutes later, scoring the second and final goal for Ferrum.
Though the crowd could argue the team made it look easy, the players might argue otherwise. A significant amount of time was spent battling for the ball on the midfield, including four yellow cards distributed between the two teams.
The play also earned goalkeeper Micheal Arzillo five saves throughout the game.
“Micheal was truly an MVP,” offered Stone Gibbs, junior.
The victory continued a 2-0 season for men’s soccer, and contributed to the five overall Panther Athletics wins to introduce the season last week.
With aspirations to preserve the streak, the team will face Greensboro College in North Carolina next Wed. Sept. 4.
