On a Thursday evening, the Student Engagement Team hosted its first trivia night of the spring semester.
With a general knowledge theme for the night, participants had to use their brains and outsmart their peers to win.
The game was played on Kahoot, and approximately 30 contestants attended, hoping to win the top prize.
The night was full of confusion and laughs as students answered a variety of unpredictable questions, ranging from history and pop culture to science and sports.
For some, the randomness of the questions and answers added an extra challenge for the contestants.
“It was tricky for me because the questions were so random, but it was fun,” said Dominique Sandidge, sophomore, who found the unpredictability both frustrating and entertaining.
Others embraced the surprise factor, including sophomore Jamel Alexander.
“I mess with how random the questions are because of everybody’s reactions,” he said.
The unexpected topics kept contestants engaged and on their toes the whole night.
Sophomore Myles Chambers had a good night but missed out on the prizes.
“I was close to winning something for the first time in a while,” he said. “I placed 8th, but I was on a streak. I feel like I would do better if it was about sports.”
His sentiment echoed that of other participants who found certain topics more challenging than others, making the game a true test of well-rounded knowledge.
Senior Sami Kircher secured first place and a $75 Amazon gift card.
Sophomore Dylan Amend finished in second place, earning a $50 Amazon gift card, while junior Aukiem Mitchell placed third place, claiming a $25 Amazon gift card.
As students left the Panthers Den, conversations about missed opportunities and guesses continued.
The next trivia night is next Feb. 10 in the Panthers Den at 8 p.m.
This time the theme will be on Black Excellence.
