Last week, the Panthers locked up the 6-seed in the ODAC playoffs and will go against the 3-seed Roanoke Maroons in the quarterfinal round.
To finish out the regular season, the men traveled to Washington and Lee.
In the team’s first matchup against the Generals, the Panthers had a dominating performance, coming out on top 101-68.
Although Ferrum had locked up a spot in the playoffs, Washington and Lee was fighting for its season.
In a tie for eighth place, Washington and Lee had to defeat the Panthers to jump Shenandoah for the final spot in the playoff picture.
The first half didn’t go the Panthers’ way.
Washington and Lee took a 7-point lead–40-33–into the break.
The Panther offense was off, shooting 38% from the field and 28% from behind the arc.
In the second half, the team found its rhythm on both sides of the ball, leading to a 50-point half and a comeback win.
Behind juniors Gerren Jones’ 23 points, Alfredo Abel-Rivera’s 16 point and 10 rebound double-double, and senior Charles Tart III’s 18 points, the Panthers ended Washington and Lee’s playoff hopes with an 83-77 win.
Now the team shifts its focus to the playoffs.
For the third time this season, the Panthers will square off against the Maroons.
In the first matchup, the team was beat from start to finish in Swartz Gym.
Recently, the team traveled to Roanoke and took the Maroons into overtime with a chance to win but fell by two points 75-73.
The Panthers take on Roanoke tonight at 7 p.m. If Ferrum wins tonight’s matchup, they will take on Head Coach Patrick Corrigan’s alma mater–Hampden Sydney–on Saturday.
