The school motto of “Not Self, But Others” rang across campus last Thursday with a day of service, mulching, repainting buildings, and beautifying the campus in time for spring.

Organized by Manager of Athletic Administrative Operations Gail Holley, the miniature day of service featured volunteers from the football team, volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, women’s flag football, and women’s lacrosse that included athletes and coaches.

“It is amazing how when you ask our athletes here at Ferrum to volunteer, they come out and make it happen,” said Holley.

Information Director Gary Holden, Deputy Athletic Director for Compliance Alexis Anderson, Strength and Conditioning Coach Kwajay Witcher, work-study students, and Athletic Director Cleive Adams were a part of the school-wide service project, as well.

“It is great to get together and give back to our community and give our student athletes and staff an opportunity give back,” Adams remarked.

Senior Macey Moore found the service project furthered her connection to campus.

“It is a way to give back and make the school a beautiful place,” said Moore. “It means a lot to give back to a place that gives us so much.”

Senior Sam Whitt, volunteering as a member of the football team, agreed.

“I think it’s really great because we get to give back to the community and the campus that gives so much to us,” offered Whitt. “And you know, it’s really fun to be out here, come and support us and everything we do, and be able to give back to our school.”

President Martin could not have been more proud of the initiative and dedication of all participating in the day of service.

“Its’s a beautiful day for the Panther family to come together to show their pride in our campus. One united Panther family, coaches, administration, and student athletes are exemplifying, ‘Not Self, But Others’,” she said.
