Young Life first anchored its way to Ferrum College in the fall of 2024, from games to bible study that’s built a wonderful community that is open for anyone.
Since that time, the club has grown, and it held its first meeting of the semester Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Maple Grove Church.
“I had a gathering of some ladies to listen to Taylor Swift music, to find the gospel message through her lyrics,” said Brittany Watts a leader at Ferrum Young Life.
At that gathering Holly Zabloski the area coordinator of Franklin County Young Life was present.
“She mentioned to me that the way I was talking and relating to those girls was reminiscent of what she would be looking for in a Young Life leader,” said Brittany Watts.
During that time, Ferrum Young Life was embryonic, so it was perfect timing for her to go through training to become a leader.
“We had two student that went through Franklin County Young Life in high school and fell in love with it. They were very changed by it and wanted to bring that impact to Ferrum College” said Zabloski.
Ferrum Young Life had its first unofficial meet in the fall of 2024.
“We wanted to reach people that are on the fringes of faith and have a lot of questions,” said Zabloski.
They want this space to feel comfortable for everyone, a safe space for questions, making friends, and not feeling judged in the mix of the fun chaos.
“My hope is that it provided a place for Ferrum College students to form genuine deep connections with their peers that are rooted in something real, and that will last forever,” said Watts.
They have also connected with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) as well as Chaplain Michael Little on campus to create ideas on how to collaborate and promote each others’ events as well as community, service, and selflessness.
“Everyone who comes into Young Life should feel like they are welcomed and encouraged to be there and that people are excited that they are there,” said Watts.
Meetings are held weekly on Wednesdays at Maple Grove Church at 7 p.m. People interested in joining or attending can contact Watts at 540-352-0216 or Zabloski at 434-942-8264 or @ferrumyounglife on Instagram.
