Baseball Goes 3-2 March 10-16

Panther baseball battled for each point in the ODAC pairing with Randolph Macon on March 10 but dropped the first leg of a double-header contest 8-5.

The Panthers started off 3-0 in the first inning, scoring a run off Clayton Michael’s, senior, single, through the right side and two runs off Mason Moffett’s, freshmen, RBI double to right-center.

Randolph Macon interrupted the streak with five runs at the top of the second inning. Although Ferrum came back with one run at the bottom.

Ferrum scored its final run in the bottom of the eighth.

In the second part of the double header, Macon scored three runs in the first inning.

Shawn Baxter, junior, and Bryce Thacker ,senior, each had RBI doubles in the bottom half of the frame to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Yellow Jackets exploded with six runs in the second inning, and Ferrum scored its final runs in the seventh inning, Resulting in a 21-10 loss.

The next game was March 13, at home against Hamilton College, and the Panthers rose to a non-conference win, 6-5.

Tyler Mason, freshman, scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Along with two other runs by Russel Golembe, sophomore, and Moffett, sending in the third run.

“The tone of the game is still very offensive, leading the team to work and lean on each other,” said Head Coach Ryan Brittle.

Ferrum won on a hit by Moffett. He stepped up to the plate and delivered a base hit through the left side that would bring home Michael, ending the score at 6-5.

The Panthers then played Hampton Sydney, a conference match, Sat., March 16, and won with a final score of 9-4.

They scored their first run of the day in the second inning on a sacrifice bunt by Gus Chafin, freshman.

The Panthers added a run by Davis Yeaman‘s, senior, RBI in the fourth inning.

Kyle Markowitz‘s, junior, RBI groundout swept Ferrum to a 4-1 streak, taking the lead in the six inning.

Golembe hit a home run over left fence field in the seventh . The tigers scored a run in the eighth inning and two more in the final inning. Ferrum finished with the score 9-4.

In the second game with Hampton Sydney, the Panthers clinched the win with final score of 7-5.

The Tigers picked up two runs in the second inning.

Ferrum answered back with two runs as well in the third inning, thanks to Thacker and Michael, making the score 2-2.

In the fifth inning, the Panthers scored five runs. Hampton Sydney scored three runs in the seventh inning, but Ferrum held onto the ODAC victory, final score being 7-5.
