The track and field team competed at the JMU invitational in Harrisonburg this past Saturday. The event, which was marked by several personal bests, also saw some Top-10 finishes.
First-year Zyreonia Patterson led the Panthers by placing 3rd in the long jump at 5.51-meters.
In the men’s long jump, senior Deontae Lawson finished 5th with a distance of 6.84-meters.
First-year Zenallah Hatcher-Simmons placed all around in the field events, finishing 7th in shot-put, 9th in the hammer-throw, and 12th in the discus.
Sophomore Lilly Bigger also performed in a field event, landing herself 5th in the javelin.
Junior Kyle Holcomb recorded a personal-best in the hammer throw, and sophomore Elijah Joyner hit his personal best in the men’s shot-put.
In the sprints, first-year Tristan Peterson placed 8th in the 100-meter and added a season best time of 22.75 in the 200-meter.
First-year Camille Vaughn led the Ferrum women in the 100-meter race, finishing at a time of 12.53.
In the 400-meter race, first-years Josiah Gallegos and Dezyre Christian competed, with Gallegos marking a personal-best speed of 52.07.
A Top-10 finish was seen in the hurdles from first-year Kalaib Gebrehaimanot, who placed 8th in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 59.17.
In the long distance 1500-meter race, three athletes saw personal-bests, and one finished in the Top 10. First-year Carly Carwile, first-year Carlos Menendez, and first-year Damani Veney-Epps all reached personal records in the 1500-meter, with Epps placing 9th at 4:11.70.
With several Top-10 finishes and new personal bests being recorded each week, the Panthers look forward to their Conference Carolinas Championship that will be held April 23-25 in Myrtle Beach.
