Men’s tennis saw both sides of competition during a two-day conference road trip, picking up a 5-2 win over Barton College before closing the season with a 6-1 loss to the University of Mount Olive.

On Friday, the Panthers came out strong in doubles, with first-years’ Emanuel Ferreira and Tobi Teller setting the tone at No. 1 with a 6-3 win. First-years’ Brian Karenzi and Sebastian Ondas followed with a 7-6 victory at No. 2, giving Ferrum an early lead heading into singles.

From there, the Panthers kept control of the matches.

Ferreira showed at No. 1 singles with a straight-set win, and Ondas followed with another steady performance at No. 2. Teller added a point at No. 3 after pushing through a second-set tie break, while Karenzi secured the fourth singles win at No. 5.

Barton picked up two points in close, three-set matches, but the Panthers’ overall consistency carried them to the win.

The momentum, however, didn’t carry over into Saturday, as the Panthers faced a tough Mount Olive team to close out the season.

Mount Olive, which remained undefeated in conference play, took control early by sweeping doubles. That early lead carried into singles, where the Trojans quickly built enough wins to secure the match.

Ondas delivered the highlight of the day at No. 1 singles, battling through a long and physical match against Kristoffer Dalbak. After splitting two tiebreak sets, Ondas pulled out a 13-11 win in the final super tiebreak, earning Ferrum’s only point of the match.

Mount Olive went on to take the remaining singles matches in straight sets, as Panther’s ended the year 8-12 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
