Ferrum Wresting had its season opener Nov. 8 at JMU, leading 10 Panthers to finals and five taking their individual championships.
The 10 finalists were spread from more than nine different weight classes with five earning titles.
Those wrestlers were first-year Riley Conway (125), sophomore Josiah Canales Maldonado (133), sophomore Cameron Curva (149), sophomore Andres Cortes (157), and junior Joseph Toner (184).
Conway won his title with a 3:41 pin over a UNC Charlotte wrestler. Canales Maldonado won with a 7-6 win over Apprentice School Newport News, Curva went 4-0, beating teammate first-year Hayden Thompson (149) in the finals 19-2. Cortes earned his victory against JMU winning 7-2, and Toner took his title by default in the finals.
The Panthers will be back on the mat this evening at home against Lincoln Memorial University and King University. This double dual is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Swartz Gym.
