The REC-341 Program Planning and Leadership class hosted a Panthers Crafts in the Franklin Hall Atrium on  Nov. 18.

Air-dry clay sculpting, bead-bracelet making, and painting were three activities stationed alongside the Dining Hall, with each station led by students in Recreation Professor Aaron Conover’s class.

Seniors Joseph Olalde and Jaquan Carey led air-dry sculpting.

“I am in charge of the sculpting station,” explained Carey. “Basically, people come here to make anything they want. I made a little tray, someone made a face earlier, and we have all sorts of colors to choose from!”

According to Olalde, the event not only gave their class an opportunity to apply the skills that they have learned throughout the semester, but it also allowed them to share them with the campus community as well.

“In our class, we are learning about program planning and hosting events, as well as engagement through the events,” offered Olalde. “It’s finals week here, so it was a perfect time to share our studies with our fellow students. It’s something to take their minds off of things.”

Their efforts did not go unnoticed. Sophomore Anwaar Smith was happy to take a break from the textbook and paint.

“I painted a dragon ball,” said Smith. “It’s always fun to draw something that you like and stuff like that. Especially when it gives you a break from all the chaos at the end of the semester.”

With winter break just around the corner, the hustle and bustle of final season will only continue around campus.
