On Feb. 13, Panther Wrestling dominated their match while also celebrating senior night.
The night started off highlighting the Panther seniors, Braeden Fluke (285), Noah Harris (195), Hunter Thompson (184), Jake Night (174) and William Melton (174).
The match started with the 141 weight class, Daiyan Heard from Choker picked up the 3-0 lead by major decision. Sophomore Cameron Curva (149) fought for a tough 12-7 decision, sophomore Andres Cortez (157) picked up a 4-2 win putting Ferrum ahead with a 6-4 score.
Sophomore Robert Owens Jr. (157) was ahead 7-1 but had a fall to Coker’s Matthew Williams in 6:04, and senior Hunter Thompson (174) had a major decision win, which put the lead to 16-4. Junior Joseph Toner (184) scored a takedown 5-4 decision, widening the score even more to a 19-4.
Choker’s Brody Switzer at 197 pounds took in a decision and reeled the score in 19-7, senior Braeden Fluke (285) put an end to that with a fall over Hunter Miller at 3:41. Sophomore Josiah Canales Maldonado (133) wrapped things up with a fall over Darren Haney at 2:54.
The Panthers will be back on the mat Feb. 28 in Newport News for the Apprentice Scramble Duals.
