Both the Women’s and Men’s Track Teams competed at the VMI Winter Classic on Feb. 14.
Several athletes from both teams placed in their events and there was even a first-place finish from the women’s team.
- First-year Kalaib Gebrehaimanot placed 7th in the 60-meter.
- Senior Deontae Lawson placed 7th in the 200-meter.
- First-year Damani Veney-Epps placed 8th in the 800-meter.
- First-year Seth Truett placed 8th in the mile.
- Junior Nadiyah Abdussalaam placed 7th in 60-meter hurdles.
- First-year Madyson Swaine placed 7th in high jump.
- First-year Sarah Hudgins placed 9th in the 800-meter
- First-year Vladmir Joacin Jr. placed 5th in the men’s shot-put.
First-year Zenallah Hatcher-Simmons placed first in the women’s shot-put throwing a distance of 13.49-meters. This also marks a personal record for Hatcher-Simmons and this throw gained the team 10 points.
Other highlights include:
- First-year Tristan Peterson hit a PR of 7.04 in the 60-meter.
- First-year Josiah Gallegos reached a PR of 52.58 in the 400-meter.
- First-year Bryce Penn achieved a PR of 55.83 in the 400-meter.
- First-year Ethan Fitzgerald hit a PR of 2:04.50 in the 800-meter.
- First-year Zyreonia Patterson reached a season best of 27.21 in the 200-meter.
Both the men’s and women’s teams placed in their relay competitions resulting in a combined 13 points from these events.
Both teams are set to return on Feb. 22 for the CC Indoor Championship.
