Women’s basketball took two Conference Carolinas wins last week, bringing the team to a 7-10 conference record this season.

On Feb. 11, the Panthers took on the UNC Pembrooke Braves in Swartz Gymnasium.

First-year Breyana Kimmons was the top scorer of the night, pouring in 19 points for Ferrum that would ultimately lead to a win.

Kimmons and first-year Sofia Ponce led the way early in the game. With the help of first-year Aleksandra Kubiak, the women’s team held a 13-9 lead in the first quarter and kept it to a close 28-25 lead at half-time.

The third quarter was equally as close. Despite the efforts of Ponce, Kimmons, and sophomore Kleiauna Riddick, the Braves were determined to keep up. Layups, three-pointers, and free throws tallied the score to a Panther lead of 38-36 at the end of the third quarter and eventually a 58-53 game win on the home court.

On Valentine’s Day, the Panthers beat North Greenville University on the road in Tigerville, SC.

Much like the first game of the week, the Panthers started strong, with senior Tauryn Blankenship‘s layup bringing a lead just minutes into the game. Ferrum ended the first quarter with a 12-point lead.

The lead increased to 22 points ahead of the Trailblazers by half-time, led by Riddick as the game’s highest scorer, as well as Kimmons with 13 points total, sophomore Maslyn Mosbacher with 12, and Blankenship with 8.

While the second half of the game persisted with alternating scores from each team, the Panthers held onto the lead, bringing home a 64-45 win.
