Women’s basketball took two losses last week against Francis Marion University and Young Harris College, with only one week left in the season.
The Francis Marion Patriots took home the first win on Feb. 18. However, the game started off strong in favor of the Panthers.
First-year Sophia Ponce took two three-pointers early in the first quarter, followed by a series of layups from senior Tauryn Blankenship and another set of three-pointers from sophomores Kleiauna Riddick and Maslyn Mosbacher.
The Patriots scored equivalently, making a 17-16 Panther lead at the end of the first-quarter.
Starting in the second quarter, first-year Breeyana Kimmons shot another three-pointer for the team, heightening the Panther lead. This led to Kimmons’ ranking as the top scorer for the game, with a total of 16 points.
FCU’s Mariana Moody kept up with the pace, however, scoring 16 points across the game for the Patriots.
The game remained tight for the remainder of the athletes’ time on the court, ending in a 77-66 loss for the Panthers.
The Young Harris Mountain Lions took another win from the Panthers on Feb. 21.
The Mountain Lions took the lead early, taking a 16-6 lead and extended the lead to 39-21 by halftime, but the Panthers gave it their all for a comeback in the second half.
Blankenship scored 12 points as the top scorer for the team, followed by Mosbacher and Kimmons with 10.
The game ended with the final score of 72-62, with the Panthers ready to play again at home on tomorrow against Mount Olive University.
