Students, teachers, and community members with a sweet tooth will have something to look forward to on the first day of spring, as the local Dairy Queen prepares to celebrate its annual Free Cone Day.

This event, scheduled for March 19, will allow customers nationwide to receive a free small vanilla soft-serve cone, or they can have it dipped in chocolate, cherry, or mint cookie for one dollar. No purchase is required, making the promotion a popular stop for college students looking for a quick and affordable treat.

According to local DQ staff, the event typically brings a large crowd of Ferrum students who stop by in between classes or after finishing their day on campus.

“It’s always a busy day for us,” said Store Manager Jessica Rutrough “We see a lot of college students and staff, and it’s a fun way to connect with the campus community.”

The annual promotion has become a tradition for Dairy Queen, drawing customers nationwide. While the free cone is the main attraction, many visitors also choose to purchase other menu items such as Blizzards, burgers, and chicken.

Students say the event is a small but worthwhile treat that gives them a quick break from college life.

“I love ice cream, and I love anything free and anything free helps me destress,” stated sophomore Caleb Honaker.

Some students did not know about Free Cone Day and were surprised to find out about the promotion.

“What?! No way!” exclaimed senior Stone Gibbs. “Who doesn’t love free stuff?”

Many students also use the event as an opportunity to gather with friends. With classes, work, and extracurricular activities filling most of their time, a free treat can provide a few moments of relaxation.

“I usually go every year,” remarked first-year Ellajane Smithers. “This year I will be going with a group of friends from the college.”

This promotion, along with the Ferrum student discount, ensure significant college outreach for the local franchise.
