On Oct.11, Ferrum College’s Human Resource Office hosted the Veterans Day Program, which was held in Vaughn Chapel.

The event welcomed members of the campus and local community to attend the program.

The program started off with a prelude, followed by the Panther Singers, singing the national anthem, and finally followed by special guest speakers.

Professor Emeritus Melvin Macklin was this year’s keynote speaker. He shared his thoughts on the program.

“I thought it was beautiful, with all of the speakers, it was wonderful,” he said. “The program went well, and I thank the students and everybody who came; everyone got something out of it, and I think everyone really connected with the sense of what we were trying to convey today, and I appreciate and thank the veterans’ services.”

For first-year Jeremiah Caldwell, attending the program was very interesting to him.

“It helped me learn more about the history that I didn’t know about, and it was a very good time to honor and celebrate the people in our community who have helped us to this current day for our freedom,” said Caldwell.

First-year Sarah Montgomery is a part of the Panther singers and shared what she thought of the program.

“I thought it was good, and I thought that a lot of people were inspiring with their words, and I also liked the historical context in Dr. Macklin’s speech,” she said.

Overall, the program was filled with people from the college and community and was a good time to honor those who serve the country.
