Women’s basketball lost a tight game against Chowan University Jan. 23 23, leaving Murfreesboro, NC with a score of 48-44.
First-year Breyana Kimmons led the way, scoring a total of 18 points across the game, with 3 three-pointers.
The Panthers maintained a tight lead for the first quarter, with a score of 13-9. This continued into the halftime break, as Ferrum maintained a 66.7% shooting accuracy that gave them a 27-25 lead.
As the third quarter clock ticked down, the teams alternated shots, misses, and scores to bring the Panthers a 33-31 advantage.
The game only intensified going into the final quarter, with six lead changes within the 10-minute period.
Chowan’s Nyeisha Savage took on an 11-point total for the game, while Ferrum’s Tauryn Blankenship, senior, took eight, followed by first-years Aleksandra Kubiak with seven and Dezariyah Clark with five.
The fourth quarter was ruled by sets of ties, jumpers, and three-pointers, with Chowan closing out the win with two free-throws at the end of the game.
The Panthers will resume the season following the winter storm on Jan. 28 in Swartz Gymnasium against Lees McRae College.
