Students, parents and community members filled Willow Creek Country Club last Friday for a night of stories, encouragement and connection as Young Life leaders shared how the ministry is shaping the lives of local teens.

“Young Life needs the church, and I would also argue that the church needs Young Life,” shared Holly Zabloski, Area Young Life Director.

“It literally grows your church. This can even be for the kids that refuse to show up to church. So many teens are disconnected from church. We would love to restart our middle school ministry and we need leaders!” Zabloski said.

For current leaders, the draw is simple: Teens are looking for belonging. Campus Young Life leader Brittany Watts explained that students show up because they know the space is real and welcoming.

“These teens are out here chasing each other down to be sure they can come to Young Life. That’s how hungry they are for it. Teens can smell fake; they just want to be seen, heard, and loved. We really are just out here plagiarizing Jesus,” Watts said.

The organization is sustained by a combination of paid staff, volunteers, and a committee that supports the leaders behind the scenes. Committee member Russon Bibbs emphasized how much help is still needed.

“We currently have 5 or 6 staff, and around 11 volunteers. Committee is the foundation and backbone of Young Life. We are called to be a support unit for leaders. This is a great place to serve and learn what’s happening in Young Life. If you or someone you know is great at budgeting or finances, we could especially use your expertise,” Bibbs said.
