Women’s basketball took a Conference Carolinas win last Friday against Shorter University with a close 63-61 win after a loss against King University last Wednesday.

Against Shorter, the Panthers fought hard for the close win to celebrate senior night, highlighting seniors Erin Harden, Allyson Cassel, Tauryn Blankenship, Jezreel Reynolds, Zy’Breayziah Alexander, and Anna Newman.

The first quarter offered a tight foreshadow to the game, with an 11-11 score just ten minutes in. Sophomore Maslyn Mosbacher broke the tie just seconds into the second quarter, securing her spot as the top scorer for the team, tied with first-year Breeyana Kimmons with 15 points. Sophomore Kleiauna Riddick scored 13 across the game, and Harden tossed in 9.

However, much like the first quarter, the second quarter ended in a 19-19 tie before half-time.

The game continued with alternating shots between Shorter and Ferrum until Riddick’s three-pointer that secured the 63-61 lead with just seconds left in the game.

Senior night brought an uplifting win to the team after Wednesday’s loss against King University.

The King University Tornadoes took off in the first quarter with an 11-point lead that expanded to a 15-point lead before half-time.

With Kimmons’ top-scoring lead after half-time, the Panthers brought the score to a 54-68 loss on the court.

The Panthers will compete again tomorrow against UNC Pembroke in Swartz Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
